Cook Book

The Arden Club offers a delightful gathering of recipes in a 84 page spiral -bound cookbook with illustrations and poems by Arden people. The foreword by Cy Liberman, former Arden resident and cookbook author states "From the earliest days of Arden's being, arts and crafts have found a happy haven in the village. Painters, sculptors, writers, musicians and masters of many crafts know the community as a fertile appreciative place to express themselves. Cooks have had an important role in the life of Arden, whrere the joy of cooking is a part of almost every kind of celebration.

Years of sharpening their culinary skills in preparation of food for families, friends, town fairs, and thousands of Saturday night community dinners have produced an impressive corps of cooks, who have made a creative art of cooking.

This volume brings you favorite recipes of men and women, young and old, past and pesent Ardenites and Arden Cub members, with the hope that you will find them worthy additions to your own culinay collect."

The chapter "Cooking For Crowds" features recipes from the Saturday night dinners offered Oct. through June by an assortment of volunteer cooks. Many of these recipes are proportioned for 100 !

The following recipe by Bonnie Burselem is a favorite at gallery openings and you can sample it yourself ! 

• Sweet and Sour Cheese Ball
• 8 oz. cream cheese
• 2 plops Worcesteshire sauce
• 3 dashes garlic salt
• 1 c. chopped walnuts (English)
• 1/4 c. butter
• 1/2 c. brown sugar (light)
• 1 1/2 tsp. yellow mustard

Sprinkle cream cheese with garlic and blend well. Form into ball. Melt butter with sugar over low heat. Stir in remaining ingredients and let cool. Press mixture between 2 sheets of waxed paper into shape of small plate. Remove top sheet and place ball in middle. Pull up 4 corners of bottom paper. Invert onto serving plate and smooth mixture down on sides of ball. Remove wax paper and serve spread on Ritz crackers. Enjoy!!
